Your first appointment will take place between the 9th and 12th week of pregnancy.
The week before your appointment, you will have a telephone appointment with one of our medical secretaries. They will open your medical file, start the health questionnaire and provide information relevant to your first appointment.
At your first appointment, you will meet the doctor who will follow your pregnancy.
Our gynaecologists work as a team and you may see another doctor when your doctor is absent.
Your delivery will be performed by the on-call doctor and all deliveries will take place at Anna-Laberge Hospital.
During the first appointment, you would have a gynecological examination which will include a chlamydia and gonorrhea screening as well as a cervical cytology. Cervical cytology is performed every 2 to 3 years and it will be performed only if you are due. It is very important to know the date of your last cervical cytology and if you have a history of abnormal cytologies.
You will also have an obstetrical ultrasound with our portable device. This device does not print any photos and does not measure the fetus.
If the visibility is good, you could take a photo or video with your phone.
It is possible to not see the pregnancy with this device. If required, your doctor will order a formal ultrasound to assess your pregnancy.
After your first visit
Your doctor will prescribe a blood test in the first trimester. You must plan your visit at your closest CLSC following your first appointment. To reserve your spot, go to www.clicsanté.ca (section blood test, screening and specimens).
Your doctor will also give you a request for a 20-week morphology ultrasound. This ultrasound is performed in radiology at Anna-Laberge Hospital and during this ultrasound, your baby's complete morphology is assessed.
You must have the requisition form in hand during your appointment and the number to reserve your spot is 450-699-2425 (ext. 4340)
Your doctor will also suggest prenatal screening. Please visit the prenatal screening section for more information.
